I Wonder...(Part 10)

I wonder…

…what’s taken me so long to get back to wondering. Oh yeah…seminary!

…how much more work I could get done at work if I didn’t get lost in deep thought so much. Probably not terribly much more.

...why I am always able to get behind the slowest driver on the road right when I'm trying to get somewhere in a hurry

…if you are as geeked about the new Transformers movie as I am.

…if you “forgot” how wack this was. Lord knows I didn’t.

…when was the last time you decided to tackle something that seemed in every way impossible (Matthew 19:26).

…about intentionally absent parents, particularly fathers, and the impact they have had (was listening to “Daughters” when wondering this one).

…where people get wack rapper names from. Seriously, OJ Da Juiceman from Otis Williams Jr. was NOT creative…just lame.

…what will be better: knowing that the Celtics lost or knowing that the Lakers lost?

...if you (for those of you claiming to be rappers) can rap faster than this guy. Yeah, didn't think so.

…where I can get a good microphone and soundcard for my computer on the low. People don’t read poetry anymore and I’m tired of being slept on.

…about the many ways I’ll grow and learn on this trip to Botswana in August.

…what you have done lately to let someone know that they are loved simply for who they are.

PEACE...go find some and when you do, save some for me!!!

Recording "Next Time"

Hello folks! About a couple of weeks ago, me and some of my fellow co-workers got together and have a little jam session on their guitars (as I just sat back and enjoyed). See the video and pictures below on how it all went down! Oh, and the download link to the demo of "Next Time" is below.

"Flashlight" Video Shoot - Behind the Scenes

Hello lovely ladies and gentlemen!  A couple of weeks ago, in the great Gotham City, the video for the first single from Batman & Batman, "Flashlight" (free download here), was shot. In addition to the great pictures of behind the scenes action taken by Rob Gaines (link below), here are some more taken by yours truly.

Also, I got a chance to catch up with the video director, Sherese Jones, yesterday and viewed some of the footage...great stuff to come in the next couple of weeks folks! Enjoy the pics and check back soon for the final video!

For more pictures, click here.  For Rob's (really flippin' awesome) pictures, click here. For more info on BreevEazie and J. Kwest, click on their names.

Ok, I know that was a lot of clicking, but it's well worth it.

Out There Again

This was on my mind as I woke up (from my whopping one hour of sleep) yesterday morning. Take heed, artist.

Out There Again

Five minutes before I go up
I catch a rare solitary moment
The crowd is as loud in this green room
as I imagine they will be when on stage
Instantly it irritates me
I remember what it was like going to concerts
Allowing the anticipation of the imminent greatness
to carry every word
and every note
through my soon-to-be sore throat
and loving every moment of it.
In desperation for a lighter stage mood
I dart my eyes from the floor
and jump off the couch.
A couple paces of the room and a quick prayer
is all I need
to give the crowd what I so desire tonight
Before I bow the blue painted walls grab my attention
Who in the world paints a green room blue?!
My irritation was immediately squared yet
I quickly root it all in the carpet beneath.
Those fans would die to be back here in this room.
I should know, I was one of them.
I saw the dream, positioned passion with skill
Worked harder than I ever imagined possible
to make this fantasy real
The artist came alive
the fan got killed
I want to walk to the stage
but steps won’t come
Reach for the door anyway
but my hand goes numb
So in front of it I stand
Façade of a man
One minute left
to everything, save my soul, I go deaf
Wanting this no more
A tear thunders as it hits the floor
Take it back
Let me scream “encore”
Let me pay sixty-five ninety-four
Let me dwell in the crowd anonymously
With bonds so true
Let me not ever know again
How this green room can be
so blue

PEACE!!!

Here's Why

Ok, lately, I've posted a few things here and there but haven't at all kept a regular schedule of posting. Here's why you haven't heard from me:

-began some preliminary work on a demo of my own song (whoo-hooo!!!), "Next Time"

-acted in an intro scene for the "Flashlight" music video (behind the scenes footage to be posted soon!). Good times and a ton of stories (they gave new meaning to having faith on the stage! lol)

-handled some photography, very, very light dj-ing, and more acting for the "Flashlight" video (much love to AB, Rob, and everyone else that came out (and to the director, Sherese Jones!))

-performed at an open mic (also networked there and will have more performances coming soon!) at the Negro League Cafe

-drove, drove and drove some more...I seriously need to do everything possible to live in the city next school year. E-town is alright, but nowhere near being conducive to a social or business life for me

-went to a wedding in Charlotte (congrats Dee and Darrick!)

-went to a wedding in South Holland (congrats Erika and Tim!)

-went to a forum on youth ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary

-more networking and Blackberry-ing

-continuously wrote papers

-did all of this within the past month, most within the past weekend

I know there is more I'm forgetting but my brain is tired. One thing I haven't done much in the past month is sleep! All of these things may sound glamourous but it's really only what young folks are supposed to be doing-pressing forward daily to achieve goals, making the world around them A Little Better. I'm humbled to be where I am (though I don't always know where that is) and continue in the search for higher heights!

So, no I haven't posted much but will get back to it on a more regular basis soon. In addition, I clearly have not called many folks but when I get my life back from school (ending next week), trust you'll hear from me. You are missed, thought of/prayed for often and not forgotten. Yes, you, you, and especially YOU!  Until the week after next...PEACE!!!
